I hate to be the bummer, but... This game can't even touch the first game with a ten foot pole. The music, lighting, atmosphere, art direction, and portrait ghosts... PORTRAIT GHOSTS... *"ahem"* made the first game FAR better in comparison.

Dark Moon was developed by a different team who clearly does NOT get the original. The subtle creepy factor is completely gone, which is a *huge* part of what made the first game so rebellious for a "Mario" game.

And again... No portrait ghosts. The portrait ghosts allowed for so much more variety, creativity, and character than the silly snorefest that was the ghosts in Dark Moon.

Sure Dark Moon adds some interesting new gameplay elements such as the strobe light, but let's be real here... The highlight of Luigi's Mansion was *never* the gameplay (all you do is suck up ghosts...), it was the atmosphere and creative characters! Dark Moon lacks both.

Plus the whole classic concept of Mario being captured created a more emotionally compelling reason to press on and defeat King Boo. A plot point that can't really be repeated.

Face it... The first game was a flash in the pan, a classic masterpiece that will go down in Nintendo history. At this rate, with LM3 looking to follow Dark Moon's footsteps, I think it's safe to say that the first game will always be a classic that will never receive the sequel it deserves...

Rest in peace Luigi's Mansion. You were a great game and, perhaps even moreso, a great experience...
