Unless you wanna dive into ray traced grames (all 4 of them), I think the 1660Ti devices are sweet spot this year. Whatchu think?

Can you help me to chose between
      Asus Rog Strix 1660
      Or Alienware 17 R5 GTX 1070

@Dave Lee out of the asus and the msi brands what would be your top recommendation for each? I've been looking for an good gaming laptop for RPGs, sandbox and FPS games and I have really fancied the rog series but have seen and heard a lot of good about bot them and msi but would just like a top recommendation for bot brands.

I never comment on videos, but I have to say I followed your advice. Picked up a 2018 Alienware m15 new from dell for like $700 ish bucks. I up'd the RAM to 32gb, so happy with my choice.

I loved the one you linked in your description but i wont go for it because it doesnt supports thunderbolt ! Its like what if in 2020 they released games for rtx series or some new graphic cards cheaper but for the best games !

So i would say you must remove that laptop link

      + razor blade 15 or msi gs65
I would go with you msi gs65 !

i was debating between 1660ti and 2060 on blackfriday, but decided to hold back on a new laptop for a year. I'm just gonna wait for the 7nm from nvidia+samsung. I want more energy efficency and better battery life while having ray tracing possible

Dave : "gaming laptop worth it yet ?"
Me here in 3rd world country using low end laptop with gtx 1050 can run witcher 3 with ultra without ambience, hair stuffs, medium shadow, low foliage with 45 fps solid. (Western people or brat so lucky to be born there, the stuffs there are cheaper and salary are higher)

Just frickin buy the reasonably best you can afford to be able to play the game you want NOW and be happy with it. If you keep waiting for the "best", you'll end up waiting forever. Everything current will be obsolete one day and there are thousands of engineers who are working against you to make that happen.

hey, hellp, im good with 10x nvidia gpus, no need for rtx, i need as good as possible cpu, 1050ti at minimum, i need very fast nvme gpu and collor accurate( for collor sensitive work) not less than 120hz screen. i hate ugly gaming laptops design, razer looks nice, i did look at legiom y740, with a discount i can afford it, good value, but is there anything for me else? good termals, somewhat slim laptop (no need for crazy slim ) with thunderbolt

I’ll never buy another top tier gaming laptop again. Your better off building a rig and buying a low-mid end gaming laptop to hold you over. The prices are crazy. For the price of a rtx 2080 laptop you can build a rig more powerful, and buy a low end gaming laptop and still save money lol

                        Just give me:

                        6 core cpu
                        2 nvme slots
                        expandable ram
                        thunderbolt 3
                        lan port

                        leave it alone.

Things I dont need on a laptop:
                        - SD card reader
                        - 1070,1080, 2070,2080 any of those high end GPUs
                        - soldered ram
                        - soldered hard drive
                        - 4k display - just use your Thunderbolt 3 and connect to a real 4k display with 38" + size like a normal human
                        - Full RGB keyboard
                        - shitty, unproven keyboard design
                        - shitty, unproven screen hinge design
                        - any biometric login authentication hardware (its not secure)
                        - touch screen
                        - 2 core CPU (its 2019 already, move on)
                        - nobody cares about quality of speaker sound on laptop. Use headphones
                        - 144Hz-240hz screens - WHY ARE YOU COMPETITIVELY GAMING ON A LAPTOP?

Before I picked my laptop choice which is the 2019 helios 300, I had to decide and pick which to get between the 1660ti, rtx 2060 or the rtx 2070 maxq version. And i'm glad that I picked the 1660ti configuration of the helios 300 since not only u can save some money but I am satisfied with the performance and it provides great value as well.

What if you're wanting to buy into it for the GPU power and not necessarily for Ray Tracing? Saving up for something this powerful is a huge hit to the budget. I'm on a 2011 MBP and am JUST now looking to upgrade, so . I personally look at this as a "future proof" investment, I plan to have the device for several years. I'm just afraid some of the older 10 series will not be able to run games as well in the future (with out ray tracing even) I dono. It's such a hard decision because I've found some pretty darn nice 2060 and 2070 laptops in the price range of 1070 and even 1080 systems, so it's like.. Hmm, which should I go with when there's only a 100 - 300 dollar difference.

You are totally ignoring the advantages of RTX graphic cards for content creation. The new implementation of real time raytracing in software like Maya, substance painter, and render engines are something to consider, at least for professional usage.

I was raised in 320x240 times, so i dont give a damn about resolution. Besides I would like to play mainly old games. The new ones , like I said, are good in Full HD for me. What should I choose?
