Apple’s WWDC came with a LOT of great announcements, but the new Mac Pro may be the most hotly anticipated in a long time. Was it worth the wait?

I saw a review where they compare a top spec Mac to the top spec Dell, the Dell has a lower spec but is $30,000 more expensive

I hope that a lot of professional idiots purchase this machine at full spec so the price of high capacity ddr4 ram will come down! I'm really excited to be able to afford 32 Gig Dimms! Keep up the good work apple, and thanks you rich idiots for needing some kind of imaginary status symbol in a computer. lol

The base model is worst than a top spec imac which is half price, paying allot for ability to upgrade, it is s great machine though if you can justify the cost ie have a business that can make money with this machine

I can buy a similarly speced HP Z840 for under 7 thousand dollars...versus 25 thousand dollars for Apple's latest crime against humanity offering.

People have already done actual comparisons and the prices are pretty similar spec for spec: You can also configure Z8's with $50k plus prices btw, yet Apple offers options to upgrade specs and everyone loses their minds.

Apple Mac Pro - $56,000.... Similarly spec'd (actually a bit lower spec'd than the Apple) Dell - $89,000 ON SALE, complete with the shittiest Indian Tech Phone Scammer support there is. As Linus pointed out with the new iMacs, the prices are actually quite good compared to similary spec'd PC's (even better in some cases). The thing is, this is a channel dedicated to gamers, who use cheap components, cheap monitors, and only really get their performance from a good Nvidia graphics card.

Since a year you can build a more powerful PC than this MAC PRO and it would be even cheaper. A Dual 2080 TI + 32cores Epyc CPU would simply crush this machine and would also cost a bit less! Again Apple comes late and expensive!

Cost of original Apple January 1984 Macintosh versus December 2019 Mac Pro. Now get over the cost and this is why....

Steve Jobs unveiled the first Apple Macintosh computer with a $2,500 price tag, on Jan. 24, 1984. In todays dollars on December 11, 2019 adjusted for inflation would now cost $6,188.84.

Originally released as the Apple Macintosh, is the original Apple Macintosh personal computer. Its beige case consisted of a 9 in (23 cm)black and white CRT monitor, single 400 KB, single-sided 3.5-inch floppy disk drive, and came with a keyboard and mouse.

The new December 2019 Mac Pro starts at $5,999 for the 8-core model with 32 GB of RAM and a 256-GB solid-state drive. That can be configured up to a 28-core model with 1.5 terabytes of RAM, and while Apple initially only offered up to 4 TB for the SSD, you can now go all the way up to 8 TB. A new Pro Display XDR monitor—a new Apple product as well—to go along with your workstation will set you back another $4,999 for the base model, bringing the cost of a full setup to $11,000. And that's just the entry-level configuration.

Now the original Apple Macintosh came with a screen. To compare the new December 2019 Mac Pro to the original would would have to add a monitor. Now for a fair comparison today December 11, 2019 the Amazon's Choice for a basic HDMI monitor Acer SB220Q bi 21.5 inches Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS Ultra-Thin Zero Frame Monitor (HDMI & VGA port) is $89.99 which would bring the total base cost for a December 2019 Mac Pro with a basic monitor that is larger, and color to $6088.99 would bring the price in at about the same price as the original January 1984 Macintosh.

So when I look at this since I was willing to put the cash up back in 1984 for the original Macintosh I do not feel that the December 2019 Mac Pro is overpriced. Now would I as a normal purchase this much power for what I do daily for my own personal use?

Since I am no longer in the professional production, or now YouTube production world I would not. I now have a iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 which when I purchased it adjusted for inflation was still under the cost of the original Apple Macintosh. I use it for personal use these days with a little photography, video, and website work just to keep me off the streets. Also as you get older the larger screen helps out a lot.

If I was still in the motion picture, and sound recording business I would purchase more than one, and they would be configured to meet, or exceed the original requirements for the job they would be doing. Now for YouTube I might've topped out at the 2019 iMac Pro in the past. Now I would purchase a December 2019 Mac Pro that was equal in specifications to the 2019 iMac Pro which for me would have cost me $12,0099.00 as of December 11, 2019 just for the Mac Pro. Do not know what I would do for one, or more monitors if I was doing YouTube.

Of course the thing I love about the December 2019 Mac Pro unlike the 2019 iMac Pro or it's predecessor Late 2013 Mac Pro also known as the "Trash Can" you can upgrade, and change components. Now you can change/upgrade memory in the 2019 iMac Pro however that is about it.

Obviously I'm not going to, coz there's no way I have that sort of cash, and even if I did, I'd only get one EPYX just for poops and giggles.

Editing is about it and you’ll never see this Mac Pro in professional post production houses, there pipelines are setup differently.

Meanwhile (and you know this) gpu accelerated options through renderers such as redshift are off the table for now.

Still that price oh dear oh dear.
