The base model is worst than a top spec imac which is half price, paying allot for ability to upgrade, it is s great machine though if you can justify the cost ie have a business that can make money with this machine

Apple Mac Pro - $56,000.... Similarly spec'd (actually a bit lower spec'd than the Apple) Dell - $89,000 ON SALE, complete with the shittiest Indian Tech Phone Scammer support there is. As Linus pointed out with the new iMacs, the prices are actually quite good compared to similary spec'd PC's (even better in some cases). The thing is, this is a channel dedicated to gamers, who use cheap components, cheap monitors, and only really get their performance from a good Nvidia graphics card.

Since a year you can build a more powerful PC than this MAC PRO and it would be even cheaper. A Dual 2080 TI + 32cores Epyc CPU would simply crush this machine and would also cost a bit less! Again Apple comes late and expensive!

So when I look at this since I was willing to put the cash up back in 1984 for the original Macintosh I do not feel that the December 2019 Mac Pro is overpriced. Now would I as a normal purchase this much power for what I do daily for my own personal use?

Since I am no longer in the professional production, or now YouTube production world I would not. I now have a iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 which when I purchased it adjusted for inflation was still under the cost of the original Apple Macintosh. I use it for personal use these days with a little photography, video, and website work just to keep me off the streets. Also as you get older the larger screen helps out a lot.

If I was still in the motion picture, and sound recording business I would purchase more than one, and they would be configured to meet, or exceed the original requirements for the job they would be doing. Now for YouTube I might've topped out at the 2019 iMac Pro in the past. Now I would purchase a December 2019 Mac Pro that was equal in specifications to the 2019 iMac Pro which for me would have cost me $12,0099.00 as of December 11, 2019 just for the Mac Pro. Do not know what I would do for one, or more monitors if I was doing YouTube.

Of course the thing I love about the December 2019 Mac Pro unlike the 2019 iMac Pro or it's predecessor Late 2013 Mac Pro also known as the "Trash Can" you can upgrade, and change components. Now you can change/upgrade memory in the 2019 iMac Pro however that is about it.

I just had a look at the apple site in Australia and specced up the maximum upgrades... the bloody thing came out to just under $81k AUD... I can buy 2 x EPYX dual cpu 2TB ram systems for that...
Obviously I'm not going to, coz there's no way I have that sort of cash, and even if I did, I'd only get one EPYX just for poops and giggles.
But damn. how the heck does apple think people will drop 80k on a system like that. just the tower...

Those massive rendering possibilities mean nothing at the price Apple are asking for one of these.

Editing is about it and you’ll never see this Mac Pro in professional post production houses, there pipelines are setup differently.

Meanwhile (and you know this) gpu accelerated options through renderers such as redshift are off the table for now.
